Civilization 7 (Civ 7) is set to delay its first in-game event to prioritize crucial quality-of-life enhancements. In a detailed update check-in on February 28, 2025, Firaxis Games outlined their Development Roadmap, providing a comprehensive look at the upcoming updates for Civ 7.

The much-anticipated Update 1.1.0 is scheduled for release on March 4, 2025, across PC and consoles, with a separate timeline for the Nintendo Switch. Originally slated for this update, the game's first in-game event, "Natural Wonder Battle," has been postponed. Firaxis Games explained, "Although our first in-game Event, Natural Wonder Battle, was originally planned for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, events are now being postponed to a later update to allow us more time to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for players worldwide. We’ll share more details about the first in-game event once we’re ready."

Since its early access phase, Civ 7 has received mixed reviews, with particular criticism directed at its user interface (UI). Responding to this feedback, Firaxis Games has committed to continuous improvement, stating, "We are aware of and looking into feedback on the game's UI." They further emphasized, "We're continuing to make improvements to Civilization 7, and appreciate you taking the time to drop your feedback."

The forthcoming Update 1.1.0 for Civ 7 will directly address community suggestions and feedback. While the complete update notes will be released upon launch, Firaxis Games has shared a preview of what players can anticipate.

A new natural wonder, the Bermuda Triangle, will be added for players to explore at no additional cost. The update will also include eagerly awaited UI adjustments to address player concerns and feedback. Additionally, there will be significant enhancements to the Modern Age’s Cultural Legacy Path and Victory mechanics, with AI leaders now better equipped to achieve a Cultural Victory.

Alongside these improvements, the first half of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection will be released. Firaxis Games confirmed, "Players who own either of those editions, or have purchased the Crossroads of the World Collection separately, will receive this content automatically with Update 1.1.0."

Next Major Update Slated for March 25, 2025

Civ 7's commitment to ongoing enhancements will continue with the next major update set for March 25, 2025, although this date could shift. This update will further refine the game’s UI, as Firaxis Games noted, "Ongoing improvements to the User Interface continues to be a top priority for the development team. The updates being introduced on March 25 are just one part of a much larger plan that aims to improve the UI over the next several months."

Looking beyond March, Civ 7 plans to introduce further improvements and refinements. These include a "one more turn" feature allowing players to continue playing past the end of the Modern Age, auto-explore functionality, new map sizes for PC and consoles (excluding Switch), enhancements in multiplayer support, and more.

Firaxis Games elaborated, "We’re in the process of scoping the work necessary to bring these priorities to the game as soon as we can. Some of these will be delivered as early as April (subject to change), though many will take longer to develop, test, and deploy. As always in development, plans can change and we'll have more details to share here in the weeks and months ahead as plans solidify. We appreciate your continued patience in the meantime!"
