Anointing Guide for Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2)

by Ellie May 14,2025

In the action-packed world of *Path of Exile 2*, enhancing your character's power can take various forms, some straightforward and others requiring a bit more digging. One such method is anointing, a powerful technique that becomes available as you progress. Let's dive into the intricacies of anointing in *Path of Exile 2*.

How To Get Distilled Emotions in Path of Exile 2

Anointing your amulets and Waystones is a feature you'll unlock later in the game, as it requires Distilled Emotions, which are obtained from Delirium Maps. If you're familiar with the first game, you'll recognize these as similar to Blight Oils. There are ten distinct types of Distilled Emotions: Despair, Disgust, Envy, Fear, Greed, Guilt, Ire, Isolation, Paranoia, and Suffering.

The most common way to acquire Distilled Emotions is by completing Delirium Maps, which reward you with a random selection upon completion. Alternatively, you can obtain them through currency exchange or the trade market.

For those looking to upgrade their Distilled Emotions, the Reforging Bench is your go-to. You'll need three of the same type to create an upgraded version, offering you more control over the emotions you receive.

If you're up for a challenge, tackling Simulacrum waves can also yield Distilled Emotions, though it's less efficient than Delirium Maps and requires a robust build to handle the increased difficulty.

How To Anoint Items in Path of Exile 2

Currently, in the Early Access phase of the game, you can anoint both Waystones and amulets, with the potential for more options in the future. To anoint an amulet, select any Distilled Emotion to access the Instilling window. Position the amulet in the central slot and place a Distilled Emotion in each of the three bottom slots. The specific emotions needed for the desired anointing ability are detailed in the Passive Skill Tree. Simply hover over a Notable Passive Skill and press alt on your keyboard or R3 on your controller to see the requirements.

The skills you choose to anoint will vary based on your build, and remember, this effect isn't permanent. You can re-anoint your amulet by repeating the process, allowing you to adapt to your current build's needs.

Similarly, you can anoint Waystones to increase their difficulty, which in turn can lead to better loot. However, both amulets and Waystones cannot be anointed if they are corrupted.

With this knowledge, you're now equipped to enhance your amulets through anointing, tailoring your build to your playstyle or taking on the challenge of anointing a Waystone in *Path of Exile 2*.

*Path of Exile 2* is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
