Wednesday is set to become a movie lover’s favorite day, as AMC Theaters unveils a plan to halve ticket prices on Wednesdays to draw crowds during the midweek lull. That’s right — a full 50% off.
Per a company statement reported by Bloomberg, the all-day discount will apply to the standard adult evening ticket price and kicks off on July 9. Even better, premium formats like IMAX and 4DX will also see the 50% price cut, a major win given the typically high cost of these screenings for individuals, families, or groups.
The movie industry has faced challenges since the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted theatergoing, leading to a sharp drop in ticket sales. Recovery has been gradual, with ongoing hurdles, and the box office still hasn’t fully rebounded. However, AMC CEO Adam Aron remains optimistic.
Aron noted that while the first quarter saw low attendance, which he called an “anomaly,” the box office has since bounced back, driven by strong performances from A Minecraft Movie and Sinners.
He highlighted robust ticket sales since April 1, a trend supported by the success of these films. A Minecraft Movie has grossed an impressive $408 million to date, while Sinners has earned $215 million and continues to climb.
With the summer blockbuster season just starting, including upcoming releases like Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning and Disney’s live-action Lilo and Stitch, plus Superman and The Fantastic Four: First Steps launching in July, the box office outlook is bright. AMC’s Wednesday discount is poised to further fuel this momentum.
