Alienware has unveiled its latest flagship gaming laptop, the Alienware Area-51, which was released earlier this year. This new model replaces the m-series laptop and introduces significant upgrades such as a sleeker redesign, current-generation components, and enhanced cooling capabilities. As part of the Dell Memorial Day Sale, various configurations of both the Alienware 16 Area-51 and Alienware 18 Area-51 gaming laptops are available at discounted prices for the first time. These models feature the latest Nvidia Blackwell GPUs, including the RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 5080, and RTX 5090. Orders placed during the sale are expected to ship out in mid-June.

Memorial Day Alienware 18 Area-51 Deals
The Alienware 18 Area-51 is designed more as a mobile desktop replacement rather than a daily commuter laptop. Weighing nearly 10 pounds and measuring 0.95 inches at its thinnest point, it's a hefty machine that requires a substantial 360W power brick, making it essential to keep it plugged in during use. The larger form factor allows for several advantages, including an expansive 18-inch display, a full-sized keyboard with a dedicated numpad, and a robust cooling system that keeps noise levels low while accommodating an RJ45 ethernet port.
Two models are currently on sale for Memorial Day. The $3,150 model comes equipped with an RTX 5080 mobile graphics card and 32GB of memory. The $3,750 model features an upgraded RTX 5090 mobile graphics card and 64GB of memory.

Memorial Day Alienware 16 Area-51 Deals
The Alienware 16, while less imposing than the Alienware 18, remains a premium gaming laptop focused on delivering maximum power and cooling. It weighs 7.5 pounds and is 0.85 inches thick at its thinnest point. Like its larger counterpart, it comes with a 360W power brick and is recommended to be used while plugged in. The smaller footprint means it features a 16-inch display and a standard laptop keyboard without a dedicated numpad or an ethernet jack. However, it can still be equipped with the same powerful internals, such as an Intel Core Ultra 9 HX processor and up to an Nvidia RTX 5090 GPU, thanks to its robust cooling system.
Four models are currently on sale for Memorial Day. The $2,850 model includes an RTX 5070 Ti mobile graphics card. Both the $2,999.99 and $3,150 models feature an RTX 5080, while the $3,650 model is equipped with an RTX 5090.

This CPU / GPU Combo Excels in Any Game
The Area-51 laptop is powered by the formidable Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, which boasts a max turbo frequency of 5.4GHz with 24 cores and a total L2 cache of 40MB. According to Passmark, this processor is among the fastest mobile CPUs available, rivaling the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D.
Notebookcheck reports that the RTX 5070 Ti mobile GPU is a significant upgrade, performing on par with the RTX 4080, while the RTX 5070 matches the RTX 4070. These GPUs should comfortably run any game at the laptop's native 1920x1200 resolution.
Tom's Hardware notes that the RTX 5080 mobile GPU is 15%-20% more powerful than its predecessor, the RTX 4080, and even outperforms the RTX 4090 by about 5%. The RTX 5080 offers excellent value, being nearly $1,000 cheaper than the RTX 5090 yet only 15% less powerful. Given the Alienware Area-51's QHD+ (2560x1600) display, the RTX 5080 should handle new and upcoming games at high frame rates, especially with the support of DLSS 4.
The Area-51: New Style, More Power, Better Cooling
For 2025, the Alienware Area-51 gaming laptop features a magnesium alloy chassis with upgraded cooling systems designed to manage the latest high-heat components. This includes additional fans, larger cutouts for enhanced airflow, increased use of copper, and a new thermal interface material that efficiently dissipates heat. Dell claims that the laptop can maintain a higher power ceiling of up to 240W TDP without increasing noise levels.
The design of the Area-51 emphasizes smooth contours with rounded edges and soft corners, replacing the squared-off look of other laptops. The hinges are mostly internal, making them nearly invisible. True to the Alienware brand, there are numerous customization options for RGB LED lighting. Connectivity includes three USB Type-A 3.2 15Gbps ports (one with PowerShare), two Thunderbolt / USB Type-C ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, and a card reader. The 16-inch model weighs 7.5 pounds, while the 18-inch model weighs 9.6 pounds.
