Auction Bridge and International Bridge (IB) are variations of the classic Bridge card game.
Auction Bridge & International Bridge (IB), representing the third evolutionary stage of the general bridge game, developed from straight bridge, also known as bridge whist. As the direct predecessor to contract bridge, its own ancestors were whist and bridge whist.
The trick scoring, bonus scoring, and penalty scoring systems in Auction Bridge & IB differ significantly from contract bridge, and the concept of vulnerability is absent in Auction Bridge & IB.
Trump selection rules are quite similar, although choosing trumps in contract bridge involves greater complexity. Both the gameplay and laws closely resemble those of contract bridge.
The dealer initiates the first trump selection and must declare intent to win at least the odd trick in a trump suit or at No-trumps. Bidding progresses based on contracting for higher point values (disregarding doubles) rather than higher numbers of tricks. For instance, 3 Spades (27 points) outranks 4 Clubs (24 points).
Each trick beyond six scores:
Notrumps: 10 points
Spades: 9 points
Hearts: 8 points
Diamonds: 7 points
Clubs: 6 points
Game requirement is 30 points
