In a recent tweet, Gunn expressed his enthusiasm, calling the season premiere "one of my favorite things ever." Accompanying the announcement, a brief clip of new footage was shared, featuring John Cena in action as Peacemaker, complete with a smirk directed at the camera amidst a backdrop of flames. In the footage, Peacemaker is referred to as "a superhero now."

Peacemaker Season 2 follows closely on the heels of the Superman film, set to release on July 11, marking the official start of Gunn's rebooted DC Universe (DCU). This season will be the third entry in the new DCU, following the Creature Commandos TV series from last year and the upcoming Superman movie.
Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran are steering the DCU away from the criticized DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, certain elements from the DCEU will carry over into the new DCU. Peacemaker serves as a prime example of this transition, having debuted in the DCEU with its first season and now continuing in the new DCU with its second.
Gunn has previously stated that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though it's not yet clear which specific elements will transition from the DCEU to the DCU. He has confirmed that the entire cast of Team Peacemaker will return, with John Cena reprising his role as Peacemaker, joined by Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.Additionally, Gunn has revealed that Peacemaker Season 2 will be set after the events of both Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly impacting Peacemaker's storyline.
