Palworld developer Pocketpair is gearing up for a significant update, set to roll out in late March 2025. This eagerly anticipated patch will introduce crossplay functionality, enabling seamless multiplayer experiences across all platforms. Additionally, players will be able to transfer their Pals between worlds, enhancing the game's versatility and player engagement. While specific details remain sparse, a promotional image shared on X/Twitter showcased a thrilling battle scene featuring various Palworld characters against a formidable Pal.
John 'Bucky' Buckley, Pocketpair's Communications Director and Publishing Manager, hinted at "a few little surprises" to be included in the March update, adding an extra layer of excitement for fans.
This update is a welcome development for the 32 million players who have embraced Palworld since its early access debut in January 2024. Pocketpair has outlined an ambitious content roadmap for 2025, which, in addition to crossplay, includes an "ending scenario" and further new content for the immensely popular creature-catching survival game.
Palworld hit the market with a $30 price tag on Steam and was simultaneously launched on Xbox and PC via Game Pass, shattering sales and concurrent player records. The overwhelming success led Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe to admit that the studio was unprepared for the massive profits generated. Swiftly capitalizing on this success, Pocketpair inked a deal with Sony to establish Palworld Entertainment, a new venture focused on expanding the game's IP and bringing it to the PS5.
However, the game's meteoric rise has not been without challenges. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair, alleging infringement on "multiple" patent rights and seeking an injunction and damages. In response, Pocketpair has identified the specific patents in question and made adjustments to the Pal summoning mechanics in the game. The studio remains steadfast, ready to defend its position in court, stating, "We will continue to assert our position in this case through future legal proceedings."
