"Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller: Charging Time Halved"

by Zoe May 05,2025

Get ready for a significant upgrade with the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller, which now charges almost twice as fast as its predecessor. As reported by Nintendo Life, Nintendo has revealed the tech specs for the new $84.99 Switch 2 Pro Controller, stating it takes approximately three-and-a-half hours to reach a full charge when using the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter or a USB-C charging cable. This is a substantial improvement over the six hours required for the original model.

The good news continues with the battery life, as the Switch 2 Pro Controller maintains the impressive 40-hour performance of its predecessor. Additionally, this new controller comes with enhanced features including a new C button, two additional GL/GR buttons on the underside, and a design that is both lighter and smaller than the original.

If you're attached to your original Pro Controller, you'll be pleased to know that Nintendo has confirmed its compatibility with the new console system. This ensures a smooth transition for gamers who aren't ready to switch just yet.

Nintendo introduced the Switch 2 during a 60-minute Nintendo Direct earlier this month. Originally, pre-orders were scheduled to open in early April in the U.S., but due to tariff-related uncertainties, the date was shifted to April 24. During this delay, Nintendo decided to maintain the $449.99 price point for the Switch 2 console and its games, but increased the prices of most Switch 2 accessories, including bumping the Switch 2 Pro Controller from $80 to $85.
