Cosmo Jarvis Confirmed for Shogun Season 2, Set a Decade Later

by Sadie May 06,2025

The critically acclaimed series Shōgun, which garnered an impressive 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is set to return for a much-anticipated second season. According to an official press release from FX, Cosmo Jarvis will reprise his role as pilot John Blackthorn and also step into the role of co-executive producer for Season 2.

Hiroyuki Sanada, who plays the lead role and signed on for the new season last May, has been elevated to executive producer following his contributions to the original series. Despite initially being conceived as a limited series, Shōgun was renewed, and production for Season 2 is scheduled to commence in January 2026 in Vancouver, the same location where the first season was filmed.

PlayFX has described the upcoming season as "a wholly original new chapter" that builds on the first season's adaptation of James Clavell's novel. The network provided insight into the narrative arc spanning the two seasons:

"In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (played by Sanada) navigated a perilous political landscape as his adversaries within the Council of Regents plotted against him. The arrival of a stranded European ship and its pilot, John Blackthorne (Jarvis), proved pivotal. Blackthorne's strategic insights shifted the balance of power, aiding Toranaga in securing victory in a monumental civil war.

"Season 2, set a decade later, delves deeper into the historically-inspired journey of these two protagonists from contrasting worlds, whose destinies remain deeply interconnected."

While fans eagerly await new episodes, expected by the end of 2026, the anticipation only grows as we look forward to the continuation of this exceptional series.
