AMD has unveiled the Radeon RX 9060 XT at Computex 2025, building on the success of the RX 9070 XT released in March. While details remain sparse, this new mid-range graphics card is poised to make an impact in the gaming community.
The AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT is equipped with 32 Compute Units and a robust 16GB of GDDR6 memory, setting it up well for 1080p gaming. Given its compact design, it's no surprise that it consumes significantly less power than its predecessor, the RX 9070 XT, with a Total Board Power (TBP) ranging from 150-182W. With half the Compute Units and power consumption of the RX 9070 XT, the RX 9060 XT is expected to be less powerful but potentially more budget-friendly. Unfortunately, AMD has kept pricing and release dates under wraps for now.
The Budget Battles Have Begun
While AMD's silence on the Radeon RX 9060 XT's pricing is frustrating, it's likely to be competitively priced, possibly in the same range as the Intel Arc B580 and the recently launched RTX 5060. Both these competitors have power budgets of 145W and 190W respectively, and were introduced at around $250-$300. AMD is expected to target the same market segment.
When the AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT finally hits the market, gamers looking for a graphics card around the $300 mark will have three options from different manufacturers. If the RX 9060 XT maintains this price point, its advantage will be clear: it's the only GPU in this category boasting 16GB of VRAM, compared to 8GB from Nvidia and 12GB from Intel.
While I eagerly await the opportunity to test the RX 9060 XT in the lab to gauge its performance, the larger frame buffer suggests it could offer better longevity as games become increasingly demanding on video memory. The final price of the RX 9060 XT remains a mystery, but it's shaping up to be the budget GPU to keep an eye on.
